Hybrid Work Tensions

This HBR article discusses 3 tensions that we as leaders need to manage in our hybrid work cultures, As we struggle to put the right policies and procedures in place. we need to manage three tensions: allowing employees to manage the following:

  • The tension between allowing employees to work when they want and expecting them to be available all the time;
  • The tension between employees feeling isolated when not working from an office and feeling invaded by communication technologies;
  • The tension between what practices are possible in a hybrid workplace and what is preferred and rewarded.

The article goes on to explain each of these tensions and make some recommendations on how to approach each to make the ‘right’ decisions for our respective organizations. By recognizing these tensions, we can build an inclusive hybrid culture that works for our business and our people.
